The ElektrosmogReport is now available in English! This quarterly publication from Diagnose-Funk provides independent reviews of recently published EMF research.

Highlights include the following:

  • As part of their 5G campaign, the German federal government and mobile network operators often use images of storks on cell phone towers to imply that radiofrequency radiation is environmentally friendly. An Algerian research group investigated whether the presence of stork nests on cell phone towers affects the reproductive success of the birds (Sakraoui et al. 2023). The results: Nests located next to the cell antennas had very low reproductive success. The greater the distance from the cell antennas, the higher the reproductive success. Nests without chicks were exclusively found next to cell antennas, while nests with four chicks were most commonly found over 300 m away.

  • Kim et al. (2024) demonstrate how mobile phone radiation affects the development of the prefrontal cortex at the molecular level. In their study, the researchers exposed newborn mice to 1850 MHz mobile phone radiation for five hours a day for four weeks, with a specific absorption rate (SAR) of 4 W/kg. For reference, the ICNIRP SAR limit for the general public is 4 W/kg for limbs and 0.08 W/kg for the whole body. The researchers observed impaired development and density of synaptic structures, as well as impaired neurite outgrowth. These changes have potential implications for neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The ElektrosmogReport is also available on the EMF-Portal, the world's largest open-access database of scientific studies on the biological and health effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic fields at RWTH Aachen University in Germany.

Diagnose-Funk e.V., a prominent German environmental organization and independent voice, publishes the ElektrosmogReport and advocates for public protection from electromagnetic fields. Active since 2009, Diagnose-Funk e.V. has promoted EMF safety through consumer advocacy, public education, and scientific research. The organization maintains a research database called EMF:data.

The ElektrosmogReport has been published continuously since 1995. It evolved from the Strahlentelex initiative, which operated a monitoring station in Berlin and published the radiation levels of specific foods following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986.
